The University City Science Center is the Philadelphia's premier catalyst of entrepreneurial activity, healthcare innovation, and economic growth. The STEM Founders Fellowship is an extension of our vision to catalyze Philadelphia area entrepreneurs and accelerate technology innovation. This 12-month experiential program is designed to give academic researchers (pursuing graduate or doctoral pathways) hands-on startup experience and support to transform concepts into a business reality.

The Fellowship includes in-person lectures, online workshops, and facilitated meetings with startups and key stakeholders.

  • An advanced degree in a STEM field
  • Abel to commit 20 hours per week to the Fellowship
  • Within a reasonably commutable distance to the Science Center
  • An entrepreneurial concept related to life sciences and/or healthcare
  • Startup proposal must demonstrate a clear market need with clear explanation on how the startup will be feasible, impactful, and scalable

The Science Center is committed to ensure that Founders Fellows are reflective of Greater Philadelphia's demographics. We encourage historically underrepresented candidates to apply.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing equal access to our program and in conjunction with our partners and sponsors, we will require that you fill out an additional survey. This survey will include demographic data such as gender, race, and other characteristic or categorical information.

We collect demographic information to evaluate our outreach efforts and help us improve. Our goal is to eliminate bias and ensure we are making our program accessible to everyone. In order to help us achieve this, your reported demographic information is stored separately and is not shared with review panels.
